George,
For regular buildings the maximum travel distance for a fire extinguisher is 75 feet - for high hazard buildings it's 50 feet or less.  That means you can't have more than 150 feet - or 100 feet or less - between fire extinguishers.  It's NFPA 906.3.  Measure out a string of appropriate length to make sure you pace that distance off properly.

I send this question regarding a recent internal audit of our cGMP facility. There is a recently constructed hallway which runs 70' and does a 90-degree "L-turn" to a 15' hallway.

 

We currently have one extinguisher at the end of the 70' hallway. I feel that a second extinguisher should be placed atthe end of the 15' section as well.

 

Can anyone provide guidance, or an NFPA reference?
