Monona,

Any full-service haz waste management outfit will take them. I know for a fact the national vendors do.

The Art Center needs to work with the Haz Waste Mgmt firm to establish a waste profile for the rags; then it’s straightforward.

Gaining approval from a laundry service company would be more challenging. Their facilities typically aren’t designed or permitted to treat many of the art-related contaminants.

Does anyone out there in the Kansas area know of a hazardous waste disposal service that willl pick up rags contaminated with mineral spirits and other solvents plus art paints whose pigments often contain some of the RCRA metals (cadmium, lead, barium, chromium, mercury, etc.)?

An art center in Lawence says they can't find anyone who will either take them for disposal or to launder and return.  Either option is fine with them at this point.
